Emotion Expressers – 52 Emotion Labelling Cards for Children
Emotion Expressers – 52 Emotion Labelling Cards for Children
Emotion Expressers is a set of 52 illustrated cards designed to help children develop emotional vocabulary as the first step toward emotional awareness. When children are able to name how they feel, the intensity of the emotion can lessen—one pathway toward emotional regulation.
Each card features an Australian animal expressing a specific emotion—such as a crocodile showing anger or a kangaroo bursting with excitement. On the front of the card, the emotion word is clearly shown alongside the expressive animal and a mindful prompt. These prompts offer gentle, playful ways to release the emotion when it becomes too strong. For example, the excited kangaroo invites children to hop quickly, then gradually slow their movement and breathing.
Children can act out the emotion, notice how it feels in their body, or use the card to express something they can’t yet put into words. The cards create space for connection, even when language is hard to find.
On the back, a short, engaging poem offers a child-friendly description of the emotion. The rhythm and imagery help make complex feelings easier to understand and more comfortable to explore
